Co-Living in KL: Accomodation Review

CoLiv @ Damai is a Co-living apartment in the heart of Kuala Lumpur. Targeted at guests staying between 3-12 months, CoLiv allows you to rent a room as part of a shared apartment for between RM955 – RM2500 a month.

Rooms

CoLiv offers a variety of room options at different price points.

Co-Liv caters mostly to mid-term stays, between three and twelve months. However, for a slightly higher monthly fee, you can book a room on a flexible contract, which allows you to leave any time after one month without incurring additional fees.

I stayed in Room C. The room was as advertised, with a workstation, comfortable bed and a beautiful view of the city skyline. The built-in wardrobe provided plenty of storage, and the in-room air conditioner was excellent. The bathroom was spacious and well equipped. The shower was roomy, with good water pressure and heating.

The kitchen is a good size, with an oven, stove, microwave, water purifier and fridge. There is no dishwasher, and very limited cookware. These weren’t huge issues for me, as the communal kitchen on floor 19 is better equipped, and eating out is also very affordable compared to Australia.

Facilities

Each apartment has a shared kitchen, with water purifier, fridge, oven, microwave and toaster. Depending on your room selection, you may also be sharing a bathroom with your flatmates. There is a laundromat in the building, with both washers and dryers costing RM5 per use. There is also ironing and cleaning equipment that you will have access too.

There are several shared spaces which everyone in the building to utilise. Floor 19 is a space where you can work, socialise, watch a movie or cook together. There is an outdoor garden with excercise equipment, as well as a small indoor gym. There is also a rooftop area with seating, bbq, and an incredible view of the city.

Location

CoLiv is located in Kampung Datak Keramut. It is a 20 minute walk to the Petronas Towers at the heart of the KL city centre. The 300 bus line runs right out of the front of Coliv, and the Damai light-rail station is only a 10 minute walk away. I found getting around the city using public transport very easy, even if the online arrival times are not to be relied upon.

Community

One of the main appeals of CoLiv to me was the community. It’s easy to meet other travellers in the shared living spaces, and it’s common for groups to get together for activities. CoLiv management also runs weekly social events, such as movie nights, shared dinners and outings.

Verdict

For anybody staying in KL for a medium-term stay, I reccomend CoLiv. Although for a similar price you could rent a studio apartment to yourself, I would still choose CoLiv, due to the quality of rooms, shared facilities, location and community.
